Track No 02 "The paintings"

Ok, I guess that's the delayed beep er . . Urm
I called you before. I think your recorder clicked
off on me. I started getting a busy signal. So I
called back. Oh, this is Jerome by the way. Urm
All I can say is, er. . . I'll just try to get a
holda ya as soon as I can.
Um. . . an, in the meantime, any of the paintings
you have of mine . . . just, er. . . as far as I'm
concerned, just, er. . . I just put you in charge of
them, whatever . . . if you wanna sell them: if you
wanna give em away: whatever you wanna sell them
for: whatever you wanna do: go ahead er I'll just
put you in charge . . . and, er . . . I'll just say
before hand I won't complain about it; whatever, yer
know, er . . .
I don't really know exactly what to say . . . when
there's nobody to talk to. Urm

Track No 3 "Law says can't talk"

Okay, I think I've got into the . . . the rhythm of
this machine rhythm now, ok. I'll just be stubborn
and keen calling back until I can get my message
through. . . or at least on the chance that I may be
getting through I . . . obviously, I can't be sure of
that but, er, I assume that You'll hear this
recording at some point, um. Okay, I've been
thinking about what to do and, um, what I'll do is
I'll come into to the Vet Center where I'm calling
from now, on Monday: and then on Monday morning and I
should get in here about, er - oh, ten o'clock or so.
If I don~t get a call then I'll come back at about
twelve . . . and, er, the number here is...um let's
see, um. I'll have to look it up, um, just a second.
. . um VA Clinic er. No. I'll have to call back with
the number of the Vet Center I guess.
Anyway I'll call back in a minute, a few minutes with
the Vet Center number and, er, then if you can call
me here from wherever you are Monday morning
and I can talk to you anyway . . . just, man, it
seems so . . . so. . . so - so difficult to get hold
of people, you know . . . It's almost as if there's
some law that says, "Oh, you can't talk to people."
You know you're not the only one . . . there's
several people that I m trying to get a hold of at
different times and I can't get a hold of them; and
so forth. Yeah, um. In any case I've been sick and
I don't want to get stuck because I'm afraid if I
don't keep my trip together, er, ,actually the last
time I was afraid I might not even make it, you know;
but I did and I'm getting better now. And er..

Track No. 04 "Transportation"

Is there anything there?
Somebody suggested that I write the message down, so
here it is. I'll try to be at the Vet Center Monday,
May eighth 95 and wait for a call from Myron at ten
a.m. then at noon if no call at 10 am.
The number of the Vet Center is 969-3835.
Okay, so such as no direct communication, er, I hope
that you get these messages and give. . . can give me
a call. Um, I wrote it down on an index card, so
I'll just go at . . . by that message I gave. I'll
repeat the message again.
"Be at the Vet Center May eighth 95, and wait for a
call from Myron at ten am, then at noon if no call at
ten am."
Okay I'll lust take that as an order and I'll try to
follow that. Then if you're anywhere where you . . .
there's a phone around, then . . . then, maybe you
can call there and maybe I can get a holda ya that
way. Er all I can say is the difficulty is
Such an incredible task just to get a hold of somebody
And . . . and I don't have any transportation, so I
have to go by the public bus schedule erm.
Either that or walk and erm walking takes too long.
That would take me two days and er if I can get a
holda ya at some point and actually talk to vou
then maybe we can work something out
I've called your place a number of times All I get is
that machine's, so I don't know if you are there or not.
but er and er If I come out there and I.
I've been trying to arrange for possibly another
place to stay in Hilo.
If I can do that, then I could walk out there,
and then, if you weren't there I could walk back and
have a place to stay.

Track No 05 "Letters and Scripts"

( beep )

Okay. The Problem lately has been(other than the
three seizures). . . has been a . . . a bad case of
pneumonia, where I had trouble breathing and, er,
I ended un passing out on the road and then, er, they
woke me up with oxygen with the ambulance but then I
didn't want to go into the emergency room so then
they took in into Keaau, dropped me off in Keaau
(after they had me sign a paper, some release paper,)
dropped me off in Keaau and, then, I was stuck in
Keeau, (laugh) and so I started hitchhiking and
managed to hitchhike into Hilo and get up to the Vet
Center and got a prescription for a some antibiotics
and then managed to hitchhike back out to, er, that
shopping center across from the Prince Kuhio Mall
(not the Prince Kuhio Mall, but the one across the street);
because that was the only place where they would fill
out a, um, a prescription from the Vet Center.
They wouldn't fill it out at the other drugstore in
Hilo and um. Anyway, I get that together and I've
been taking those and I've been getting better and er
(sigh) Well, I don't know, I'll just keep trying the
same way. I'll just keep trying to get holda ya this
way, and sooner or later maybe I'll manage to get
in contact with you. Er
I could write a letter. You know I might write a
letter; but, trouble with a letter is that's not
really communication. I mean, you know what I mean.
That's a statement of "Oh! Hello! How are you?" so
forth and so on. But er it's kinda like, er, Ya
know, writing a book or a script for a TV program or
something, you know. It's a . . .a . . . one way
thing, you know; and there's no communication back,
except another letter, and that's just the same thing
from the other person . . . er, so I'll just keep
trying to get a holda ya from this phone when I come
into town. I'll keep coming into town; try to get a
holda ya on this phone. I can use the phone up here
at the Vet Center for free, so, anytime . . .

Track No 06 "Thirty More by August"

Okay, I kinda lost my train of thought there, but, er
anyway, what I was saying is: "I'll try to get a
holda ya; I'll keep trying to get a hold a ya on this
phone." and, er, I've got some more . . . I've got
a couple more paintings I could give you. I'm still
trying to do some more, but I've had some problems
with being sick lately. I haven't got as many as I
wanted done, but I still may be able to get thirty of
them done by August. Um, let's see, it's kinda
strange caus it's sort of like talking to a wall or
talking to your TV set or something. Um, well, okay,
I've got this message. It says:
"Be at Vet Center Monday May eighth ninety five and
wait for a call from Myron at ten am, then at noon if
no call at ten am." So, I'll follow that message and
the number at the Vet Center is 969-3835.
Let me check and see make sure that May eighth is the
right date. . .yeah, okay, May eighth is Monday,
right. Okay, well, I'll just go by the message, and,
um ... uh, I hope you're doing fine and . . . it
seems like, er, you're in another country or
something. But, er, as far as any paintings of mine
that you've got . . . er . . . all I can say about
that is,
"Just do whatever you want with them." Just leave
you in charge with them and I'll just say, er . . .
from the start, er . . . beforehand, er . . .that any
that are in your possession, it's up to you to do
with them what you want: if you want to sell them; if
you want to give them away; if you want to sell them
for a million dollars apiece . . . That's up to you
and, er, I won't argue with it about you. I won't
argue about it with you. Whatever you do with them,
okay?"

Track No 07 "Military Operation"

Okay, this is Jerome, back again, er . . . I guess
I went over the bit with the paintings and so forth
er. Let's see, oh, I didn't write it down and get
my message. Well, anyway, I've got it written down
on the index cards, so, er, any questions about
what I've said I'll look at the index card and see
what is written on it. Miracles of modern science
Gee? (cough)
Anyway, somebody's ganna try to get me propane
tomorrow, and I need to be up there because if I
don't get the propane I'm going to run out some
time next week. And then I'm liable to get the
(what the hell's it called?) pneumonia, I guess...
back. And, er, I don't want to get that back.
It's . . . I was having trouble breathing. That can
really, er, be a problem so I'll just keep trying
to get a holda ya and, urm . . . er, I don't know
what else to say . . . just to go by the May eighth
message, yeah? Okay, well, I guess. it's like a
military operation.
Okay I'll call it the "May Eighth Message",
And so right now I'm just going by the May Eighth
Message and, er till further notice and, urm,
hope everything's okay with ya, um . . . wonder if
I should have a codeword. What? "Operation May
Eighth" There!
Okay, so, I hope you get this message and urm,
assuming the bus is running and May Eighth and the
Vet Center is open, I'll be here at 1O am and again
at noon. And if I don't get any messages from you
then, I'll just keep going through the same routine
and, er . . . I'll just try . . .

Track No 08 Strange saying Goodbye

(Beep)

Okay, this is Jerome again. I'll just try to be
persistent and just keep going through this routine
until er, well, till something . . . something
breaks, urm? urm. So I already said what the "May
Eighth Message" was, so just go by the "May Eighth
Message" and, urm, er . . . or if you have a
message to leave at that time, that's okay too, er.
It's just that I have trouble getting to a phone,
er . . . unless I come into town, you know, and
then that's . . . that's a whole day trip, er, er,
and it's at certain times, when you're at work,
unfortunately. So, . . . oh, I don't know what to
say.
It's not like being in - not just a different
country; it's like being a different planet!
er, um . . . or like some kind of a military
operation, where you've got to carry out some
operation. There's no communication so you've got
to have code words arranged and a whole complex
system set up.
Urm, all I can say is I'll just keep being
persistent and, er, and hope that that results in
some . . . in some solution. So best wishes and,
er, er . . .
As far as any of my paintings are concerned, you're
in charge, er . . . of any that you have.
I don't know what else to say, er . . . so, see you
on May eighth! er . . . er . . .
It feels rather strange saying "Goodbye."
There's no one there to say it to, but . . . er,
heh, you know what I mean, eh?
